Anvil Hill camp

Friday, August 24, 2007 - 3:00pm  to  Sunday, August 26, 2007 - 5:00pm

Update: The camp has been postponed until further notice. More information coming soon.

People from all over NSW are preparing to stop Centennial Coal's bulldozers when they start construction on the recently approved Anvil Hill coal mine site in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Join us on the weekend of
24-26 August at the Anvil Hill site for an inspiring weekend of workshops, skillsharing and training on peaceful direct action.

Organised by local residents with the support of The Anvil Hill Alliance, Greenpeace, Rising Tide and the NSW Greens, the action camp will help to prepare for the next phase of opposition to the expansion of the coal industry in the Hunter Valley.

So if you're concerned about climate change, if you're sick of governments failing to listen, and if you're ready to take peaceful direct action to help protect our future from dangerous climate change, this weekend is for you!

It'll be a great opportunity to learn some new skills and camp in the beautiful bush near the Anvil Hill site. So come along, bring you family and friends, and get involved in the campaign.

Emergency public meeting on Anvil Hill, coal and climate change

Sunday, June 24, 2007 - 2:00pm  to  Sunday, June 24, 2007 - 4:00pm

The state government’s appalling approval of the Anvil Hill coal mine was a slap in the face to communities in the Hunter Valley and throughout NSW. It shows that the State Labor Government acts in the interests of coal industry profits, not the people of NSW. And it shows clearly that they are not serious about stopping dangerous climate change – our greatest threat.

We have to draw a line in the sand at Anvil Hill if we are to stop the massive expansion of NSW’s coal industry and stop dangerous climate change. Come along to an emergency public meeting at Marrickville Town Hall on Sunday June 24th between 2-4 to find out how we can Save Anvil Hill, and begin the move away from coal.

Weekend of Community Action

Friday, June 2, 2006 - 12:00pm  to  Saturday, June 3, 2006 - 5:00pm

Save Anvil Hill - Save our climate from coal

If we are going to stop dangerous climate change then we need to stop the expansion of the export coal industry. Anvil Hill is where we will draw a line in the sand.

Centennial Coal wants to build a massive new coal mine in the remnant forest of the Upper Hunter.

Come to Anvil Hill on June 3rd, learn more about the issue and send a message to politicians and the coal industry that enough is enough.

Enough of huge coal mines that destroy the Hunter Valley and fuel climate change. Enough of putting coal industry profits ahead of our future.

What will we do at Anvil Hill?

We will form a giant human sign that reads 'Save Anvil Hill' on Sunday 3rd June at midday. Please wear a blue shirt and bring blue ribbons or other blue things. Activities and entertainment are planned for Saturday and Sunday, with free camping on Saturday night.

Festival atmosphere

The weekend will be fun and family friendly. There will be music, films, great cheap food (including vegetarian) and fun kids activities. There will be tours of the Anvil Hill site on Saturday and workshops on Anvil Hill, climate change and renewable energy.

You can come anytime after midday on Saturday and camp on a private property right next door to the mine site.

There will be toilets and cooking facilities provided. You can also stay in Denman, which is only 10 minutes away. It has a motel and hotels. Or you can come up on Sunday the 3rd for the day. We will form the human sign at midday.
