Update: The camp has been postponed until further notice. More information coming soon.
People from all over NSW are preparing to stop Centennial Coal's bulldozers when they start construction on the recently approved Anvil Hill coal mine site in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Join us on the weekend of
24-26 August at the Anvil Hill site for an inspiring weekend of workshops, skillsharing and training on peaceful direct action.
Organised by local residents with the support of The Anvil Hill Alliance, Greenpeace, Rising Tide and the NSW Greens, the action camp will help to prepare for the next phase of opposition to the expansion of the coal industry in the Hunter Valley.
So if you're concerned about climate change, if you're sick of governments failing to listen, and if you're ready to take peaceful direct action to help protect our future from dangerous climate change, this weekend is for you!
It'll be a great opportunity to learn some new skills and camp in the beautiful bush near the Anvil Hill site. So come along, bring you family and friends, and get involved in the campaign.

Why?
The Anvil Hill coal mine has been approved so when the bulldozers go in we need to be prepared for peaceful direct action. Why?
- Because climate change is the biggest threat to our future
- Because coal fuels climate change
- Because Newcastle is the largest coal exporter in the world
- Because the proposed new coal mine at Anvil Hill will produce 10 million tonnes of coal each year and will drive the expansion of Newcastle's coal export infrastructure
- Because the mine will have massive local environmental and social impacts
- Because we need to act urgently to prevent dangerous climate change.
Anvil Hill is the largest intact stand of remnant vegetation on the Central Hunter Valley floor, and, at a time when global greenhouse pollution needs to be cut swiftly and radically, consumption of fossil fuels like coal needs to be phased out as fast as possible.
Throughout history, non-violent civil disobedience has been used again and again to triumph over injustice. From the anti-slavery movement, through the women’s and civil rights movements, non-violent direct action has been a potent tool – and it is a tool that we need more than ever in the fight against climate change.
